Vintage 2015

There was no holding the buds back, they started to break on April 19th.  There was some concern of frost nipping them but it didn't happen.  The weather forecast is for mixed cloudy weather through the end of the month so it's likely we've seen the end of the frost this spring.  This gets the clock started on the vintage and sets up for ripening to happen in  all of September.

We made it to May 12th without frost damage.  This is the second one of the early markers for a successful vintage.  The next marker is flowering, looking for fair weather in last part of June.

Flower is in full swing, June 16th.  Weather has been sunny and hot, cooler today, worried about timing up the spray for PM, don't want to do it in mid-flower.

Fruit set is very good, flowering is about done, spraying for PM prevention now. June 22.

Early April

Weather is on the cold side to start off the month but the warmer than usual late winter has the buds swelling nicely. We can see bud break start in three weeks easy with some more warm stretches.  It's just as well to have some cold now to keep the break at end of April.

April 2nd was label approval day! It's going to be a day I celebrate for sure in the future.

Working on getting an e-shopping cart here. Reading up on all I can and can't do on the WSLCB website regarding sales.

I figured out how to add a PayPal purchase button(s).  The test worked so after I check with the authorities, Washington consumers will be able to buy a 2 bottle set direct from here with a couple delivery options.

March 2015

It's nearing the middle of March, the vineyard is nearly all pruned. The vines are waking up with some drip showing at the new prune cuts this week.  The weather experts say  El Nino is beginning so we are expecting a good vintage year.

We are still waiting on label approval, Corrections were made and resubmitted at end of February.

2/15/15

Pinot Noir

This wine is crisp, dry and features a tart fruit profile.  I enjoy it best with either a sweet treat or with creamy cheesy main dish, salmon, rock fish or oysters.     It's best taste profile is at 65f-70f degrees.

It's unfiltered with a dusting of sediment in the base.  It's best to decant at opening in one smooth pour but if no decanter is available it is easy to get four pours without a hint of sediment and the last pour with a just a little kick up of lees.

The fruit came predominately from the 2009 vintage. The remainder of it came from 2007.  It has held youth exceptionally well due to her acidity.  It isn't a problem to have half the bottle push the cork in to seal by hand and enjoy the remainder in a couple three days.
