Latitude 47 N 10' 5, Common with Cote de Nuits

Cloquallum Vineyard is at 47 N 10' 5 latitude. Where does this correspond to where Pinot Noir is most famous, Burgundy? Well, 47 N 10' runs right through some of the finest Burgundy vineyards. Vosne-Romanee is at 47 N 9.37' and some of the Romanee-Conti vineyards are to the north of Vosnne-Romanee several hundred meters and that hits right on the same latitude as we have here. Clos de Vougeot is on the precise latitude according to google maps. The south portions of Clos de Vougeot are on the same latitude as Cloquallum Vineyard. Is this important? It simply means the dynamic light and dark periods are precisely the same every day. Grape growth is keyed off light periods and temperature. The Pinot Noir clones here are from latitudes within a couple miles over in Burgundy. At least so far as light period is concerned, Pinot Noir is the precise cultivar to be growing here!
