We have Dijon 115, Pommard, Wadenswil(UCD 2A) and Mariafeld(UCD 23) clones of Pinot Noir. Each of these clones have distinct characteristics that affect growing and winemaking. The clones are self-rooted. (The next vineyard planting will be done on rootstock as it appears rootstock may shorten the season on the fall end as well as protect from root parasites.)
As this growing season moves along, I hope to show the main differences between clones as they grow. While I can't afford the time to do research blocks, I can report what happens and that could be of great use to someone else. I learned by reading everything possible, crawling around in vineyards down in Oregon (snooping) observing and running all that through critical reasoning. It is amazing what a detailed report here or there does for the inquiring mind.
